Beyond being just a style choice, wearing wigs is a great way to protect and care for your natural locks.
We often get asked how to care for natural hair under our full lace wigs & lace front wigs. Caring for your own hair is very important and wearing a wig can help you grow longer, thicker, and healthier hair. Here’s how to look after your natural hair under a wig.
Keep your hair moisturized:
Even if it’s hidden under a wig, dry hair and scalp is a no-no. Grab a spray bottle and mix your favourite light hair oil in water, add some conditioner, shake it up and use it on your hair daily. This will keep your hair and scalp moisturized. If DIY isn't your thing, there are plenty of leave-in moisturizers available.
Wash your hair regularly:
We cannot stress the importance of this tip. Wearing a wig can encourage sweat and dirt to build up, especially if you're into your fitness. Shampooing and conditioning your hair will help clean your scalp.
Keep in mind, we're not asking you to go overboard and wash your hair excessively, because this can remove away all of the good nutrients.
Keep your hair braided underneath:
Braiding down your hair is the standard base before placing a wig on top. When done the proper way, any wig will lay flat. If you want to save yourself some time try doing flat twists, it’s a lot easier. The smaller the sections, the better.
Keeping your hair down has benefits like stopping it from becoming tangled, matted, and breaking.
Trim the ends:
Though your hair is laid flat and cornrowed under your wigs, the ends of your hair are often exposed. It's important to get rid of unhealthy split ends/frizz to help your natural hair grow back thicker and healthier. Trim in moderation, don't over cut your hair. We recommend you see a hair professional for trims.
Give your hair a break:

The biggest benefit of a wig is that you can put it on and take it off whenever you want. The feeling may have just replaced the 'taking your bra off after a long day' feeling. If you feel comfortable, try to wear your natural hair out for a while. Your hair and scalp need air!
Keep your wig clean:
Hands up if you wash your wig! Washing and maintaining your human hair wig is not difficult; it just requires gentle care. Clean wig and clean natural hair, a great duo.
